Think of the fish. Bin your lenses.

Every year in the US alone, 20 - 23 metric tonnes of microplastic waste ends up in our oceans. All from contact lenses that have been thrown down the drain.

Lenny’s taking a stand. It's here to help you help the fish.

This is about the same amount of plastic that goes into four credit cards. That might not seem like a lot, but when a load of people put their lenses down the drain, it adds up.

This is around 1/8 of a teaspoon of plastic. So yeah, not much.

You do the maths.

Lenny helps you find monthly disposable lenses, so you’ll use way fewer lenses each month than if you were wearing dailies. That means there’s way less chance of you putting your lenses down the drain every month. And guess what? That means way less plastic in the ocean. Pretty simple, right?

Switch to monthly disposables. Save money. Save sealife.

There are a tonne of great monthly disposable lenses out there that'll help you put less plastic down the drain. And better yet, if you wear your lenses everyday, they’re often cheaper than dailies. It's a win-win. Ask your optician about what options are there for you.

Lenny isn't affiliated with these brands - but we'd like to be. Slide into our DMs if you'd be down to collaborate.

Life’s too short to be doing recycling research.

We wouldn’t blame you for getting confused about how to throw your lenses away properly. Can everything be recycled? Or is it all headed for the bin? No sweat, to get rid of your lens waste at home just follow the simple steps below.

Tear the foil off each of your contact lens trays

1

Put the plastic part in the recycling

2

Put the foil and the contact lens itself in the bin

3

Ditch the drain. Repurpose your rubbish.
Bask in your glory.

There are a bunch of companies who will take your lens trash and repurpose it into completely new stuff. It’s the most environmentally friendly way to get rid of your lenses. And the coolest. Stick your lens waste in the box it came in and you're good to go.

find a recycling point

Playground equipment made of contact lenses? Why not.

Getting rid of your lenses down the drain - bad. Throwing them in the bin - better. Turning your lenses into a slide? Now we’re talking. Drop your lenses off at a lens recycling point and they’ll transform them into a whole tonne of different things. Watering cans. Tote bags. The list goes on.

There’s an elephant in the room.
And we aren’t ignoring it.

You’ve probably heard the stats around ocean waste (and if you haven’t, go watch Seaspriracy, pronto). 46% of rubbish in our seas is caused by fishing nets. That’s around 2 London buses of waste every minute. So while we want to see fewer contact lenses in our oceans, we aren’t ignoring the bigger picture. Eat less fish, reduce your microplastic footprint and help save our sealife.
